Ricardo (Swiss Marketplace) Data Breach, About 890,000 Accounts: Names, Addresses and Phone Numbers Exposed, and What Users Should Do
On October 9, 2026, SMG Swiss Marketplace Group, which runs the Swiss online marketplace Ricardo, announced unauthorised access to personal data linked to orders on the Ricardo platform. Ricardo detected suspicious activity on its servers on October 7 and started technical measures at once; the company says the security vulnerability that allowed the access has been fully resolved. The investigation established that personal data relating to approximately 890,000 user accounts was exposed. The exposed data was limited to names, postal addresses and telephone numbers and, for business users, company names; email addresses and passwords were not affected. Ricardo is informing affected users directly and has notified the Swiss Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC). The nature of the vulnerability and the period of access have not been disclosed. This site's take: assume your address and phone number are known, and do not give card details or bank or TWINT logins to post, calls, texts or WhatsApp messages claiming to be from Ricardo or a trading partner.
